I wouldn't be Momma D if I didn't brag about my daughter Kathryn. She won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in Special Olympics swim event this weekend. I am not sure how to incorporate these into a quilt!
That's awesome. It is such a accomplishment for her and for your family. This is a memory that will lasts a lifetime and who knows where it will go? Congratulations!
That is awesome! The organization my daughters have played for always participates in the Exceptionals Program. I don't know if you have any idea what that is but every child in the program, from very young 8-year-old to young adults are handicapped, mentally or physically. They play softball and the girls on my daughter's teams buddy up with one of the Exceptionals and help them bat, field the ball, get around the bases, etc. If they are in a wheelchair or walker, they push or escort them. They are also there to protect them from getting hit with a thrown ball or batted ball. I absolutely love participating in this event. The participants are so fun and our daughters are taught some very good lessons in life.
Yes, Jocelyn, she plays on team M-2 of The Exceptionals! She has played for 4 years now. Her friend Brittani Baker plays competitive softball on the league that sponsors this- she probably knows you girls. She is the one that got us started with it. Kathryn loves it and I cannot say enough good things about the program. You are right, it does teach the girls that play competitive sports life lessons. They learn from each other, which is really cool. One time, Kathryn had a seizure on the bench and fell and hit her head and skinned her knees. The "typical" girl from the softball team that was helping her just cried and cried. I felt bad for her as I think she was quite traumatized. Kathryn recovered and was fine but the poor helper girl got a life lesson that day.
It was all in swimming. Two individual events and one relay. She didn't have any competition for some of it:) but it is the fact she did it and finished that counts!
Three cheers for Kathryn and her accomplishments! Diane, I am so glad you included it in your blog. You are a proud momma and it shows! Kathryn is so lucky to have you in her life. Tell her congratulations!
Please give tell Kathryn congratulations! That's awesome!

Kathryn must be thrilled to the gills- I am soooo happy for her! What were her medals in? I am guessing at least one was in swimming.
